Lion Love

Aslan and two lionesses arrived from the Catskill Game Farm in New York just before Christmas 2006. With the closure of their animal park, the game farm auctioned off 950 animals and made east coast and national headlines. Animal welfare activists were concerned that some of the animals would wind up at canned hunting operations where hunters pay to shoot fenced-in animals.
Many groups intervened and negotiated placement of animals in sanctuaries to ensure a safer fate. It is described as one of the largest animal rescues of its type.

The lions arrived with several scars on their faces and hindquarters – the haunting reminder of their previous confinement. But given their huge hearts and some TLC, the have healed both emotionally and physically.

Showing an animal in need that you care is an amazing gift. This gift of compassion can be shared with a loved one this Valentine’s Day. Please make a $25 “Lion-love” donation and we will send you or a loved one a Lion-love Valentine greeting card. This year’s Valentine includes a full-color photo of Aslan and Shanti Deva. The inside message tells the recipient that a donation was made with love in their honor.
