Cities 97 is a radio station in Minnesota that not only supports local musicians, but their Cities 97 CD Sampler also supports many local charities.
For years the success of the sampler has made dreams come true for people and animals in need. TWS has been a recipient charity in the past and we hope that dream will come true again this year.
Many people know that The Wildcat Sanctuary is a safe haven for more than 100 rescued wildcats. But did you know we are also a teaching ground for future wildlife vets, rehabilitators, biologists and more?
The Wildcat Sanctuary educates thousands of people yearly, including hundreds of elementary students and college students. In addition, we provide specialized training opportunities via our on-site veterinary seminars, off-site presentations and most importantly our year-round college internship program.
The sanctuary interns spend three months learning animal husbandry and animal identification as well as habitat construction and safety protocols. They work long hours providing for lion, tigers and other cats that reside at the sanctuary. Interns also participate in educational presentations to summer camps, state parks and civic events. They gain valuable knowledge and experience that will help launch their careers and become compassionate professionals in the animal field.
But after a long hard day of working for the cats, the interns currently have little space to relax and comfortably sleep. Cramped quarters make it difficult to study for classes and work on projects. All interns share one bathroom, not only with each other but with the staff and volunteers and the office cats. There is no room to relax or work on the computer. Also, due to the small amount of space, we can only accommodate four interns at one time.
Our student interns are not like some of the cats at TWS who love to sleep in a pile together. They are the future hope for the captive wildlife crisis and deserve their own space.
Even with little space and privacy, the student interns have found a way to keep their spirits high by listening to Cities 97. The cats enjoy it as well. We even think Lilly has a crush on morning host BT.
But proceeds from the Cities 97 Sampler can change all that!
Imagine what work could be accomplished with an Intern Bunkhouse that could house more students all year round. More animals could be saved. More young adults could be educated. And more music from Cities 97 could be enjoyed.
We are hoping Cities 97 will see that a Cities 97 Intern Bunkhouse is a worthy cause and will help TWS educate future animal and environmental advocates. TWS will be applying to be a recipient charity of choice in early June. Learn more about the Intern bunkhouse.
