Matty, the cougar, and all of us at The Wildcat Sanctuary would like to thank Nordic Naturals for their wonderful support and for donating $500 of Pet Cod Liver Oil quarterly.  It’s no secret that cod liver oil provides essential fatty acids and vitamins to humans, but did you know that dogs and cats needs these things as well?  Even our wild cat residents need these fatty acids and vitamins to ensure a healthy and nutritious diet.  That’s why we’re so grateful to Nordic Naturals for supplying their Pet Cod Liver Oil for our residents.

Cod liver oil is a great source of DHA and EPA omega-3 fatty acids.  Cats and dogs cannot make these fatty acids in their bodies so they must be obtained through the diet.  Essential fatty acids help maintain cell membrane fluidity and permeability needed for healthy functioning cells.  They also support the body’s natural anti-inflammatory response.  This can help cats or dogs with allergies.  For example, our resident jaguar Diablo Guapo suffers from allergies.  He gets dry flaky spots on his neck, face and back.  But, after supplementing his diet with Pet Cod Liver Oil, his flaky, dry skin cleared up.

Shalico, a Canada lynx, also suffers from hot spots and allergies.  Shalico was receiving cod liver oil before Nordic Naturals was donating to us.  In the period between purchasing the cod liver oil and receiving Nordic Naturals’ donation, we ran out.  Two weeks after going off the cod liver oil, Shalico’s hot spots showed up on his neck.  Thankfully, we received Nordic Naturals’ donation, started him on it and his skin has been clear ever since.

Other health benefits for our animals include supporting the healthy function of joints, kidneys and the heart.  Many of our residents are in their golden years and in order to ensure they stay as healthy as possible, we supplement their diets with Pet Cod Liver Oil.  Many older cats have joint problems such as arthritis, especially those that were unfortunately declawed. The cod liver oil helps to grease those creaky joints, so to speak.  We also have some aging cats with chronic renal failure.  Tasha, a cougar, was recently diagnosed with this, so her diet is now supplemented with cod liver oil to help slow the process of her kidneys shutting down.

So once again, thank you Nordic Naturals for your generous donation; it has improved the life of many of our residents here.  We are so happy with the results that we recommend using their products to supplement your pets’ diets so they can live a long and healthy life.
