Josie, a cougar,
came from a good home. The owners were educated on exotic
animals, loved her dearly and planned that Josie would be
a part of their family for a lifetime. Having a 17-year-old
son, they did not plan the arrival of their new child. The
owners decided to put the safety of their child and Josie's
needs first. They could have sold Josie to a breeder or to
a private civilian as a pet. Thankfully, the family wanted
Josie to have the best life possible, they chose TWS as the
place they wanted her to go. At the time, the sanctuary was
at full capacity. The owners were persistent and contacted
TWS several times, insisting this was the right place for
Josie to spend the rest of her life. TWS raised additional
funds and built a new habitat in order to accommodate Josie
and provide her a safe haven where she could remain wild at
heart.
Upon arrival at TWS, Josie was introduced
to her new neighbor Meme, a 350 lb. tiger living in the adjoining
habitat. These two neighbors enjoyed each other's company
playing, chasing and antagonizing each other—it all
appeared to be done with best intentions.
Meme has since moved on over the rainbow bridge and Josie
has moved with the rest of the residents to our new site in
Sandstone. She know resides with Hope,
another rescued cougar. In the coming months, Josie, Hope
and the rest of the cougars will move to their permanent habitats
when they are completed.
In watching Josie enjoy her life as
a cougar, it is obvious that the right decisions were made
to make sure that Josie live the rest of her life at TWS.
