Phoenix

History

Male African serval Phoenix and his sister Nunda were surrendered to The Wildcat Sanctuary in 2005. They were just under three years old at the time.

They’d been owned privately and, as happens all too frequently, their owner moved to a state where it was illegal to have exotic cats as pets. There was concern they’d be seized and destroyed.

Life at the Sanctuary

When they had their intake exams, Phoenix and Nunda weighed only 14 and 16 lbs., the smallest servals we’d ever seen. Nunda had already had surgery for an intestinal obstruction after eating one of the owner’s leather belts.

Wild cats are just that – wild and unpredictable, not meant to live in a house. But rather to enjoy living as free as they can possibly be.

At The Wildcat Sanctuary, they both enjoy safe toys such as feathers, cardboard boxes and indestructible balls. But their favorite thing is a pool in the summer. They now live with several other servals in a free-roaming habitat with so many natural amenities.

How You Can Help

Though small, they’re still wild with many needs. And, when we take cats like these in so young, it means 20+ years of customized care.

That’s why our sponsorship program is such a huge help! Would you consider being Phoenix’s sponsor parent?

Or even a one time donation towards his care would help so much. It’s easy to do using the buttons you see at the top of this page.
