Merlin is a four-year-old male Bengal cat who arrived at the sanctuary in April of 2022. In the fall of 2019, Merlin had been found as a stray under the hood of a car. He was brought into Animal Control and adopted by one of their staff.
They loved Merlin very much and did all they could to embrace everything Bengal about him. But after three years, they decided he needed a home where he would be happy. A place where he could stretch his wild side, so they reached out to us.
Merlin’s a very high energy cat. Like most Bengals, he was displaying territorial urination throughout the house, even when they were doing all the right things for him. He also enjoyed shredding walls and door frames, no matter how much enrichment or how many scratching posts were provided. Merlin was an adorable handful, but very much loved.
We didn’t have space right away in our program, so the owner was more than willing to keep Merlin until we had space. With spring’s arrival, a merger now into a Hybrid Haven bungalow would be a nicer transition for him.
Life at the Sanctuary
Merlin is absolutely stunning and so incredibly sweet. But even so, his behaviors make it challenging for him to live in a home environment. That’s why we were happy to see him excited about being with us now.
He immediately exited his crate and hasn’t stopped exploring and rolling around playing yet! This is always so nice to see, knowing he’s easy going and not afraid of new opportunities.
After a few tries, we were able to find the purr-fect match for Merlin. After some supervised playdates, he was successfully merged with hybrids Ty, Ledger and Lady. That’s gone very well, and Merlin really likes a female to pal around with.
Merlin is one of our hybrids who likes affection, so he gets plenty of petting and socialization from his caretakers. He’s also the most extraverted of his bungalow family.
We’re incredibly thankful he was saved as a stray and are glad he found his way to us. It’s been magical (pun intended) to see Merlin so at home with his sanctuary life!
How You Can Help
It would be so wonderful for Merlin to have a sponsor parent. What a special way to welcome him to his forever home.
If you’d like to be his sponsor parent for $150 annually or $12.50 monthly, it’s easy to do using the buttons at the top of this page. Or, a one time donation toward his care would also be very helpful.
Thank you for caring about Merlin’s future, too.
